Preventive Care
Preventive care helps to keep you healthy and identify problems early, while they are easier to treat. A typical preventive care exam – often referred to as a physical or well visit – includes:

  • Blood pressure check: every two years if blood pressure is less than 120/80 mm Hg; every year if 12—139/80—89 mm HG
  • Pap test: discuss what’s right for you based on your age and your history
  • Immunizations:
  • Influenza: every year
    • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Td/Tdap): Tdap once, then Td every 10 years
    • Varicella (chickenpox): two doses if you’ve not had it before and are not immune to chickenpox
    • HPV vaccines: talk to your primary care physician if you need to catch up

Now is also a prime time for you to build strong bones by getting enough calcium and vitamin D.

Find a primary care physician
Choosing your primary care physician will help you be your healthiest through all of life’s changes, big or small. He or she will get to now you and your health history and will understand your needs and preferences. Your primary care physician can help you avoid problems later in life with simple screenings and care, and partner with you on wellness and prevention.

STD’s/Chlamydia
Chlamydia shows no symptoms in most women. If left untreated, chlamydia can cause permanent damage to the reproductive system and make it difficult to get pregnant later on. Screening is recommended for women younger than 25 if sexually active or older if at increased risk of infection. Getting screened is simple and confidential. Talk to your doctor to learn more.
